The party continued their fierce battle against the fish people in the water-filled cave. Crezzida cast Witch Bolt on the ornately robed high priestess, dealing seven points of damage as electrical energy crackled between them. Meanwhile, the high priestess concentrated on a sinister spell in the water, causing green and black energy to coalesce ominously beneath the surface. Nillituh fired arrows at the fish person but missed both shots, while another fish warrior attacked Bones with its wave cutter blade.

The battle intensified when Yomidrogo cast Inflict Wounds on the high priestess, dealing a devastating twenty-seven points of damage. The necromantic spell caused visible decay and scarring along the creature's neck and skull, forcing it to lose concentration on its water spell. As the spell broke, the water surface began to ripple violently where the fish person's hand had been. Bones fought back with Chill Touch, dealing twelve points of necrotic damage to a hexed fish person, making it sluggish and lethargic.

A massive water elemental began emerging from the depths as the magical bonds holding it were disrupted. The creature rose as a swirling mass of water, moving faster than the eye could comprehend. It immediately attacked the remaining fish people rather than the party, crushing one creature's skull with forty-two points of damage and throwing its carcass against the cave wall. The high priestess attempted one final desperate attack, critically hitting Crezzida and reducing her to just one hit point before Fe retaliated with Hellish Rebuke, dealing twenty-six points of infernal damage and killing the high priestess instantly.

With the fish people defeated, the water elemental turned toward the party, but Nillituh successfully established telepathic communication with the creature. The elemental shared feelings of sadness and anger, showing images of light turning to darkness and fish people with devilish features. It communicated that it had been imprisoned by the fish people and showed recognition of the party's orb. The creature also projected images of the road to Arakcadia, indicating it would need help there in the future, before departing with a respectful nod.

The party looted the battlefield, finding one hundred gold pieces and a magical blue bone staff with a sharp tooth. Bones discovered his original bone staff was also magical, serving as a spell focus that could amplify spells with proper training. They harvested four fish teeth as proof of their victory and noticed the water in the area had become significantly clearer after defeating the fish people. The party then returned to Easthills, collected their reward of two hundred gold each from the guard office, and prepared for their next adventure.

That evening, they visited Club Enchant, a rowdy tavern in the farming district that served as a front for a secret magical community. After providing the correct passphrase "Midnight Sunlight Paradise" and showing their magical items, they were led to a hidden wine cellar meeting room. There they met the Night Swords, a rebellion organization led by Night, a Tabaxi who explained their mission to find evidence of corruption against the Trading Minister. The group believed the minister was blocking trade routes and creating artificial resource shortages to benefit himself and his allies.

The Night Swords proposed a dangerous heist: infiltrate an exclusive dinner party at the Lord of the East's mansion while the Trading Minister was present, then sneak into his unguarded house to find incriminating documents. Bruce, a half-orc member, provided the party with ancient magical talking stones for communication during the mission. The party agreed to help in exchange for keeping any loot they found, and spent the following day preparing by purchasing formal attire from upscale tailors and gathering information about their targets.

The next evening, the party successfully infiltrated the exclusive Marbled Basin and gained entry to the Lord of the East's lavish dinner party. Crezzida convinced the gate guard to let them pass without proper documentation, while Yomidrogo snuck in by hiding among other guests. Inside the marble mansion, they observed exotic foods, elite guests, and various high-ranking officials with their bodyguards. Fe delivered an exceptional violin performance that impressed the Lord of the East and Trading Minister, while Kailyn successfully eavesdropped on their conversation, learning about troop movements, trade blockades, and someone named Tribicrin.

To create distractions for their escape, Kailyn punched Yomidrogo and they staged a fight, causing guards to escort them to a side exit. Bones snuck out through an unguarded door, while Yomidrogo convinced a guard to turn around and then cast invisibility on himself. Kailyn seduced guard Caleb and had an intimate encounter with him, arranging to meet again the next day. Meanwhile, Crezzida faked a panic attack to further distract the remaining security.

Bones and Yomidrogo successfully broke into the Trading Minister's tower house using Mage Hand to unlock the back door. They split up to search the three floors, with Bones finding general trade documents on the ground floor and narrowly avoiding a fireball trap on the second floor. On the third floor, Yomidrogo discovered thirty-five gold, a valuable gold bracelet, and an iridescent mirror that showed horrific visions to confuse intruders. Most significantly, Bones found a magic carpet that recognized Yomidrogo's scent - it was the same carpet from his childhood clan, triggering powerful emotional memories.

The mission took a tragic turn when they found corruption documents mentioning Tribicrin and trade route blockades. Upon hearing that name, Yomidrogo screamed in anguish, alerting the Trading Minister's wife who came downstairs in her nightgown. In the ensuing confrontation, Yomidrogo cast Guiding Bolt and killed her instantly with fourteen points of damage. Panicked, they escaped on the magic carpet through a window, shattering the stained glass as a guard shouted for them to stop.

The party attempted to coordinate their escape through magical messages while trapped in the domed Marbled Basin. They landed at the edge of the dome, ditched the woman's body after carving symbols into it, and Yomidrogo cast invisibility on himself and Bones. As they ran toward the main entrance, the rest of the party began evacuating the dinner party. However, their escape was interrupted by a catastrophic magical attack.

A massive beam of light suddenly shot through the mansion and the Trading Minister's house, radiating intense heat and bouncing around the Marbled Basin. The beam exploded in multiple places, throwing everyone in different directions and knocking all party members unconscious. The mansion was bisected in half with people buried in the rubble, while everything caught fire, creating a devastating firestorm throughout the area.

Yomidrogo awakened disoriented in the aftermath, finding himself bleeding from a head wound that mysteriously healed. He discovered he was lying on the magic carpet, which had likely saved his life, but Bones was nowhere to be found. The destruction around him was apocalyptic - the mansion destroyed, people dead and burning, with severed limbs scattered about. He found the elegant woman from the party severely injured with deep lacerations, burns, and a severed foot, wearing a broken heart locket that would never match again. When he tried to heal her with cure wounds, the spell failed because there was no soul left to heal.

The devastation triggered traumatic memories from Yomidrogo's past, and he broke down crying at the hellish scene before him. The orb in his pocket provided protective warmth and had apparently healed his head wound, offering some comfort in the chaos. As he prepared to escape on his magic carpet, an arrow struck him in the knee for four points of damage. Three hooded elves appeared - the same ones who had been pursuing him - and cast powerful spells on him. He took twenty-four points of psychic damage and failed an intelligence saving throw as they cast paralysis magic that made his limbs go numb and his thoughts become foggy. As his vision went dark and his sense of self began to slip away, one elf spoke the word "progress," and Yomidrogo lost consciousness, captured by his mysterious pursuers.
