Town, in Places
Serpanaise
Serpanaise is a small, swampy town built on stilts at the southern edge of Canaan, situated in the Destitute Lands approximately a day's journey west of Vainlake. It is one of the last settlements before Veurim territory and is characterised by its lawless, unguarded nature and its wary, self-reliant population. The town sits amid marshy terrain, with sandstone pillars and rolling dunes visible in the distance.
Geography
Serpanaise is located along the coast road west of Vainlake, accessible via a scenic route that passes along cliffs overlooking the eastern Soual Ocean. The town sits at the southern edge of the continent, near the border of Veurim-influenced territory.
The surrounding environment is swampy and forested. A dense forest near Serpanaise is notable for its unsettling silence — the canopy is thick, the trees are tall willows, and wildlife beyond insects is largely absent. Locals warn of sinkholes and poisonous mists in the forest, and advise travellers to keep to the road.
Settlements and services
Serpanaise is a small settlement with limited infrastructure. It has residential houses, a single tavern, a small graveyard, and a town square with a few shops — including a general clothing store. The town has no official guard force or governing authority, consistent with its position in the lawless Destitute Lands.
