Vainlake

Vainlake is a coastal trading town located on the Empire Tribe Road on the southern coast of the Destitute Lands, a few blocks from the shore of the eastern Soual Ocean. It is a decently sized settlement that serves as a commercial and social waypoint for travellers moving through the southern regions of Canaan, situated roughly between the Mediata Savannah and the lawless interior of the Destitute Lands. Unlike the more remote and deteriorated villages deeper in the Destitute Lands, Vainlake supports a bustling main street and a range of established shops and services.

Geography

Vainlake is situated along the coast of the eastern Soual Ocean, accessible via the Empire Tribe Road — a dirt road system that runs along the coast and connects the town to other settlements in the region. The town lies on the southern coast of the Destitute Lands, with Myrefall inland to the north, and serves as a last point of relative civilisation before the road leads into the lawless interior.

A crossroads near Vainlake marks the junction where travellers can choose between the road to Blackpond Harbour in the Destitute Lands and the coast road to Serpanaise. Between Vainlake and Myrefall, the terrain transitions from coastal to increasingly arid and desert-like conditions.

Economy

Vainlake exists primarily as a trading town. It has no major port, but its position on the Empire Tribe Road and proximity to the ocean make it a natural stopping point for overland and coastal commerce. The town's main street supports an apothecary, smiths and armourers, a gem dealer, a small library and stables serving traffic on the coast road.
