District, in Places

Highgarden

Highgarden is an affluent residential district on the northern bank of Arakcadia, known for high-end residences, landscaped paths, civic quiet, and carefully maintained public spaces. It is one of the most desirable addresses in the city and home to some of Arakcadia's most established civic families, senior scholars, diplomats, and high-status professional households. Its character is defined by wealth, institutional proximity, and a certain deliberate quietness that distinguishes it from the commercial energy of the south bank and even from the busier diplomatic and official spaces of the adjacent Highriver District.

Highgarden contains two of Arakcadia's most significant and contrasting buildings: the Grand Conservatory, a major scientific and astronomical institution open to credentialled scholars and the educated public, and Raven Tower, an old sealed tower that predates the district and that no civic office claims.

Character and society

Highgarden's residential character places it among the most exclusive districts in Arakcadia. Its residents include senior civic households — the families of long-serving councillors, heads of civic offices, major institutions, and established scholarly dynasties — as well as wealthy merchant and finance households with north-bank addresses, and the residences of foreign diplomatic staff not housed in formal embassy compounds in the Highriver District.

The district's landscaped paths and maintained green spaces are a mark of civic investment and reflect the priorities of a residential area whose inhabitants have the political standing to ensure their neighbourhood is maintained well. Public spaces in Highgarden are well-kept and quietly monitored by civic peace officers.

Social life in Highgarden is private rather than public. There are no loud taverns, fighting pits, or street food vendors here. Residents entertain at home or in formal venues; the Grand Conservatory's lecture rooms serve as one of the few semi-public social spaces where Highgarden residents mix with scholars from other parts of the city. The Opera House precinct, adjacent on the north bank, draws Highgarden residents to formal cultural events.

Institutions

Grand Conservatory

The Grand Conservatory is Highgarden's most publicly known institution. It is an astronomical and scientific research establishment that delivers public lectures and publishes works through the Arakcadian Royal Library Press. Its dome is a landmark on the north-bank skyline.

Raven Tower

Raven Tower is an old sealed tower in Highgarden, older than the district around it. No owner appears in civic records, its door has been shut for longer than living memory, and residents are advised to leave it alone.
