Iridium Channel
The Iridium Channel is the body of water separating the island territory of Droshdech from the southwestern coast of the Canaanese mainland. It lies between the southwestern edge of Veurim territory on the mainland side and the eastern coast of Droshdech on the island side. The channel provides the primary sea lane for travel and trade between Droshdech and the mainland, and is used regularly by the trade ships that connect Droshdech with Arakcadia.
Geography
The Iridium Channel runs between the southwestern coast of the Canaanese mainland and the eastern coast of Droshdech. The settlement of Alenez on Droshdech is the easternmost point of the island, directly facing the channel toward the mainland. The channel connects to the broader western oceanic routes used by trade and maritime traffic between Droshdech and Arakcadia.
The channel also receives traffic from ships heading along the western coastal route, which passes through the Iridium Channel to connect settlements on the western coast of the mainland — including Illihil, Komordia, and others — to the Droshdech trade lanes.
Strategic significance
The Iridium Channel is the primary barrier between Droshdech and the Veurim Empire, which has begun targeting the island for territorial expansion. The maritime patrols maintained by Veurim along the western coast of the mainland mean that the channel is observed territory, and the security of Droshdech's independence depends in part on its capacity to manage maritime access across it.
